The Flower Artist

My name is Mayra Page. I was born in southern California to Mexican parents. My parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles were all farmworkers. As a young girl, I grew up surrounded by peach trees, dates, sunflowers, and hot air balloons.

I was proud of the work my parents did as farmworkers and dreamed of owning a farm one day. Life had different plans and as a young kid, my family moved to Franklin, TN where I spent the majority of my early years.

Some of my favorite flower memories include all the birthdays I've spent in Mexico, where my grandmother will order two dozen yellow roses to be delivered to our home. I've managed to dry one rose out of the bouquet and save it in a journal as a souvenir.

Sunflowers grew in abundance where I grew up in southern California. I was always fascinated by how majestic and tall they stood; directing their petals towards the sun. Always happy, always warm.

I became a mamá to a beautiful baby girl in 2022. That day, my mom gifted me a bouquet of yellow roses and she shared with me how her mom, my grandmother, would always buy her flowers after each one of her births.

After being laid off in 2023, I had the opportunity of spending more time in our garden. For the first time, I grew my own flowers and I was hooked. I dream about sharing the love of nature and the beauty of flowers with my own daughter. Pass down some of the flower traditions to her and make new ones.

Campo del Sol Flowers  feels like a wish made a long time ago that is finally coming true.
